The Internet has “flattened” the world. Information is power. Use of the Internet can even bring down governments – for example, Egypt. What was once private is now public. Look at Wikileaks! Lack of computer skills today makes it very difficult to get a job in many countries- especially the United States. For teachers technology is essential for instructional use as well as teaching the most current information.

Having a computer consumes much of my daily life, but that’s because I am a technology teacher. Even when not working, though, I spend at least an hour or more in the evenings checking Facebook, my emails, reading news of looking for information. I think my husband would say I spend too much time on my computer! I also use it to communicate and visit family & friends by using Skype. Without this, it would be very difficult to keep in touch when traveling and living overseas.
