I have mixed feelings about the growing influence of computers.
On one hand, I see great opportunities for the strengthening of free speech. It looks like the computer was decisive for the demonstrations in Asia and the Middle East.

On the other hand, I also see great risks.
A face-to-face conversation between two people is becoming a rare sight. Everyone is accessible all times, which means much stress and pressure. Also in Central Europe it looks almost impossible to achieve a normal social life without an Internet connection. All the invitations for celebrations and festivities are send online. I don’t condemn these developments; I also send my invitations online. But I try to counter this trend as much as possible. For a person working mainly at night the Internet is a important part of my life. Most of my contacts I maintain through the Internet.
